	Situated between the tourist centres St. Englmar, Viechtach and Bodenmais the municipality Geiersthal has been opening up to tourism for decades and has become an officially recognized recreational area.
Seeking recreation you will be offered a surpassing infrastructure with more than 100 km of signposted hiking trails, lots of playgrounds for children, several tennis courts, a sports hall, asphalt alleys for active visitors (where you can do sports as eg. bowling etc.) and you can choose from a wide range of accommodation: B&B, farms, guesthouses and hotels.

The rediscovered castle ‘Altnußberg’ was Bavaria’s largest excavation site for years. Special attractions are the reconstructed castle tower and the attached castle museum. In the castle tavern convivial evening are arranged every Thursday (starting at 7 pm) during the summer months July and August.

Guided tours through the castle grounds and the castle museum:
From May until October every Thursday at 4 pm.

Guided tours for groups have to be booked in advance.

Further sights:

The Church St. Margareta in Geierstahl is worth seeing because of its frescoes in the late Gothic choir. The lovely
little park being situated directly in the village centre also invites you to stay and rest on its benches.
